The Columbia River Gorge in Oregon is a very popular hiking destination. There are numerous amounts of trails that bring you through the thicket lush forests of Oregon, through and around the gorge, to towering waterfalls, flourishing rivers and more.
Triple Falls is a moderate trail that is right off the road, Columbia River Highway, in the Western part of the Gorge. When you drive down the Columbia River Hwy, you will pass Horsetail Falls right off the side of the road. A nice little stop, and as you continue driving down the road, you will pass another trail Ponytail that will bring you to another falls. These falls are smaller and you have to walk to it, but you can go behind the falls on this hike. Make sure you bring shoes or sandles you don’t mind getting wet. You have to walk through rivers to get to these falls.
Then if you continue farther down the road, you will see Oneonta Trailhead, the trailhead you use for triple falls. This trail is an out and back trail. It is 2.6 miles round-trip. Even though short, it is a moderate hike because at the beginning of this trail, it is switchbacks. Not long after you start this trail, you will see another trail veering off to the left. This is a short extra trail that will bring you to Middle Oneonta Falls. This area is just filled with waterfalls!
When you get to triple falls, you will know when you are there because you will literally see three falls coming together. You can continue on this trail if you would like. There are longer hikes if desired. I never did these though so I can’t comment on them. Here is a map of the area if interested you can get off Amazon.
Hope you enjoy! The Columbia River Gorge is an amazing place and this is just one small area in it!
