The Japanese Garden located right in Portland Oregon, specifically in Washington Park is 5.5 acres. This garden is operated by the Japanese Garden Society of Oregon and has five major sub-gardens: strolling pond garden, natural garden, sand and stone garden, flat garden and the tea garden.
The main attraction is seeing the Japanese trees. They are so beautiful! They have a little color to them in the summer, but if you venture into this park in the fall, the colors are much more exuberant.
The Japanese Garden is not very big, depending on how fast or slow you go. You can spend anywhere from 15 minutes to hours if you slow down to admire the beauty of the trees and gardens.
They offer tours if you are interested in learning more about the trees and the spiritual understanding of some of the masterpieces.
The garden is basically one big circle. I went around it twice and realized I missed a couple things. There are some side trails along the way. If you have the time, I would advise to go around it twice. It doesn’t take very long and you may see something different.
This area offers more than just the Japanese Gardens. There is a playground for the kids and a couple other small attractions to spend at least half of the day here. You have to pay for parking by the hour, but there are specials if you are spending a half a day or even the whole day. Remember when you park your car to look at your number of your parking space. When you pay for parking you have to plug that number in. I forgot and had to walk all the way back to my car.
I highly recommend this place, at least if you’re into this kind of thing. If you’re not into trees and waterfalls and fish, probably not. I would love to come back during the fall. If I have the opportunity in the future I definitely will!
There is a little video below if your interested!
I hope you enjoyed this article and are able to check this place out some day if you haven’t already. I don’t do many tourist attractions and this one was on my top priority. And it was everything I wanted it to be. Maybe a tad smaller but it was still awesome!
Thank you for reading. Hope you have a great night/day/morning/all of the above!
Sincerely,
