There aren’t too many places in the world where the public can go and search for free diamonds. In fact, this is the only place in the world where you can do that! Located in the center of Arkansas, Craters of Diamonds has 37 1/2 acres where you can hopefully find the next big one!
The State Park has a fee of ten dollars per person and you have the option to purchase or rent digging equipment. It is not necessary to use tools. You can easily search for diamonds right on the surface where many of the diamonds are found. If you do choose to rent equipment, people generally rent items for what they call, wet sifting, a process that allows you to sift through large quantities of dirt in a short period of time. They demonstrate how to wet swift right at the center for free. They also allow you to bring your own tools as long as it is not machine operated. You can see the details on their site.

What makes this park so special in my eyes is they want you to find diamonds and people do find them. They give free demonstrations on how to effectively go through the dirt, they offer all the equipment you want/need, and they even have free identifications from the staff so you know what you have collected. If you collect something special they record it and you can look at the records to see what people have found.

There is a campground at this state park for tents and RV’s with a bathhouse and hot showers. This park is family oriented and is great for people of all ages. People generally spend 3 1/2 hours here at the park.

Hope you enjoyed and wish you luck on finding a diamond. We had no such luck. Thank you for reading!

Here is a link to a book on crater of diamonds if you’re a reader.
