Crater Lake National Park is small relative to how big the National Parks usually are, but the park is so beautiful! If you want to see a lot with minimum effort, this park is for you! As far as Crater Lake goes, there is not much hiking required in order to get a great shot! The road loops around the whole lake, giving you a substantial amount of opportunities to capture the best angle!
There is also hiking. There is a trail the covers about half of the lake. The trail does a nice job at getting you away from the road, even though the road hugs the lake. There are also a couple peaks you can hike up to get higher up views of Crater Lake and the nearby mountains!
There is also hiking other than the Lake. There are hikes that take you through waterfalls; Rogue Gorge, Rough Rider Falls and Plaikni Falls. Up mountains like we covered earlier; Tenas Peak, Brown Mountain, Garfield Peak, Grizzly Peak, Mount Bailey and Mount Scott-the highest point you can get in the park. And a hike that brings you to another lake, Indigo Lake.
The park offers boat tours of the lake if interested. Obviously that is extra money. The park only offers it weather permitting. Here is the link if you want to look into it. http://www.craterlakelodges.com/activities/volcano-boat-cruises/
There are backpacking opportunities here. You just need to talk to the park rangers and get your back country permit just like any other area. The park contains over 90 miles of hiking trails, for day hikers and backpackers. There is a topo map you can get of the area.
I very much enjoyed Crater Lake National Park. It was nice to be able to enjoy great astounding views with minimum effort. It was very relaxing! And if you take the trail around the lake, it is extremely relaxing. You just hear the birds for the most part and get to look at the beauty the lake offers!
Hope you enjoyed! Thank you for reading!
