The Oregon Coast is just a magnificent place for hiking, camping, fishing, boating, whale-watching, etc. Cape Lookout State Park has over eight miles of hiking and is just South of the city Tillamook. The area is located between Netearts Bay and the Pacific Ocean. This trail, Cape Lookout, winds through old-growth forests and heads to a lookout point where you can see the beach, the bay, the ocean, and maybe some whales if their around.
Cape Lookout Trail
This trail follows the headland for about two miles one-way. The trail has a little bit of elevation but the hike overall is a moderate hike. There is a great overlook when you reach the end. If you have hiked Cascade Head already, or are planning on doing it, they have very similar views. So if you are on limited time I would just pick one of the two, but honestly I would pick Cascade Head. This hike is very beautiful, though!
You walk on a ridge too. I love walking on ridges and seeing shear drop offs. Love the feeling!
Directions
It is off highway 101, but you have to drive towards the coast. You will turn on Cape Lookout Road/Sandlake Road. If you are driving North on the 101 you will turn left and if you are driving South, you will turn right on Cape Lookout Road. It is Southwest of Portland Oregon, North of Pacific City and South of Rockaway Beach to get your bearings.
